Sun, 25 November 2007 ![]() When DJ Matt Matrix (Red Pill Sessions) suggested we do a gospel house mix together, I jumped at the chance. I've heard his house mixes and felt honored! So here it is, a New York/New Jersey mix of uplifting gospel house music.. Here's a little something about Matt Matrix. Matt Matrix starting DJing at the age of 14 after being inspired by listening to the 98.7 Kiss FM Mastermix shows in the mid 80's performed by legendary DJs, DJ Red Alert, & The Great Tony Humphries. He was determined to do whatever it took to support his passion for playing music, doing everything from working summer jobs to shovelling snow to get money to buy DJ gear. After becoming known locally, Matt Matrix would play various college jams for schools such as Trenton State College, and The University of Virginia where he performed at events for the Alpha Kappa Alphas. Matt Matrix was resident DJ at Club Ronnie's in Newark, NJ and the Ramada Inn Hotel in Wayne, NJ. Now with over 20 years of experience and countless events under his belt, Matt Matrix is focused and passionate about music as ever. He now has his own production company, Red Pill Productions with projects in the works. PLAYLIST DJ Matt Matrix

Sat, 3 November 2007 ![]() Let me introduce you to Thomas "DJ Peace" Spann, who cut his teeth as a dj in the early 80's during the explosive beginnings of Chicago House Music…. Through Steve Hurley, Thomas was introduced to the pioneers of the house music movement that was growing in Chicago - Farley "Funking" Keith, Eric"E.T." Taylor. Ron Hardy, and Frankie Knuckles, just to name a few. As an unofficial member of Hurley's "Hot Waxx Productions", he learned various mixing techniques such as remixing, scratch mixing and b.p.m. matching by watching and playing with Steve, Farley and E.T. Soon, he developed his own unique style which incorporated his love for jazz, r&b, rock and world music. It wasn't long, before he was recruited by promoters to appear as a guest DJ on many of Chicago's legendary house sessions held weekly at such venues as The Bismarck Pavilion, the Ascot Hotel, the Blackstone Hotel and other "A-list" venues. By the time Thomas Spann graduated from high school in 1985, he was in great demand, playing on the sets of Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles and Andre Hatchett; one of the resident jocks for the Marz Bar on the infamous Rush Street; guest DJ at the Power Plant, Medusa's and Ron Hardy's Music Box. In 1986 Thomas was approached to headline Club C.O.D., which he did until he decided to join the military in 1987. During his military stint, Thomas was assigned to Germany and served in the first Gulf War. He credits his time in the Persian Gulf for reawakening his"experimental ear" as he listened to the exotic rhythms of the region. Back inGermany, Thomas began experimenting with laying Middle Eastern soundsover percussion to create dance tracks that were played by a DJ friend named Sasha at a local club in Frankfurt. These tracks, which were wildly well received by the crowd, led to Thomas spinning occasional house sets which caught the ear of a club owner and within a few months, DJ Thomas Spann was the headliner at Club Capri in Friedberg and at the Plantation club in Frankfurt. Upon returning to the states in 1994, Thomas DJ'd sporadically in clubs while pursuing higher education at Chicago State University. During this period he hosted and produced his own talk show, "the 411" on WCSU-AM 610; hosted "Ragga Radio", a show dealing with Carribbean issues, and became very active in community affairs. In 2002, Thomas relocated to South Florida, where, bored with the club scene and repetitive sounding djs, he entered - and won - the Battle of the DJs under a new, edgier DJ tag - "Tommy Gunnz". The battle was held at the now defunct "Club Matrix" in downtown Fort Lauderdale in February 2003. Deciding to reinvent himself once again, largely due to the amount of turmoil and violence in our world, Thomas buried "Tommy Gunnz" and has been rocking the world ever since in his latest Thomas has been a featured "guest dj" for Hot 105 - FM's "the Tom Joyner Morning Show Cruise Bon Voyage Party in 2003 and 2004 as well as for "Funk Jazz Lounge" on occasion playing alongside the Brass King and can also be found on decks frequently as a resident for Soul Simple Entertainment (www.soulsimple-ent.com) In addition, Thomas still travels back and forth to Denver, Chicago and Detroit to play. Yeah. he's like a friendly ninja, this DJ Peace… The Music….lives on……………… You can find DJ Peace at http://www.myspace.com/dj_peace69 Comments[5]

Tue, 25 September 2007 I proudly present a mix from DJ Come of Age aka COA - I have nicknamed him "The Man with the Master Plan" for his positive, forward-thinking, innovative, tireless desire to promote the music that he so dearly loves and supports..Soul-stirring neo-soul at it's best. Plus, the fact the he is also a fellow "househead" makes him the perfect guest DJ for the House Sessions podcast...Thank you, COA. A few words from TMWTMP:)): "A potent mix of music that will immediately grab your attention and touch your soul" The plight of the independent musician has been well documented. Faced with a driving passion to present his craft, stymied by lack of funding and ample resources, many never reach the coveted pinnacle of acclaimed recognition. Dreams deferred, these artisans are left in self doubt and devoid of fulfillment. In a most unorthodox fashion, one man has singlehandedly given the "Unheralded" center stage. DJ Come of Age is a pioneer, a phenom whose vision became a concept all its own. In simple terms, find music which is beautiful and promote it as one. Without boundaries and strained classification he allies himself with stellar, soulful artists from the world over. As a collective of musicians, producers, DJs, poets, and models, the promotion of their works is shared by all. "Our love for the music is impetus enough. It's something we live and breathe. In the same way we collect and cherish, we long to share and be heard. The energy once used to "compete" with others is now used to constructively establish ourselves. It's much easier and beneficial to uplift one another than waste time being negative and vain. The key for us was to target outlets willing to give us an ear. The foundation was already established with each respective fan base so it was easy to grow from there." Listen to the DJ Come of Age podcast now at http://djcoa.libsyn.com . The show is also available on iTunes . "find something you are willing to die for, then, live for it" Let the music live! DJ Come of Age The Mixtape Comments[0]
Mon, 17 September 2007 A soulfully mellow, romantic, house mix by DJ Kinglion - ....You'll definitely enjoy it as much as I did. (Think of dimming the lights and lighting those fragrant candles, bubble bath and a HUGE glass of wine), lol... I asked DJ Kinglion to give us some background info and this is what he had to say: "I have been a DJ most of my life. My father was my first idol and mentor. He was a DJ himself - well rounded in his musical selection of jazz, soul, gospel, reggae and funk- which helped me develop a musical taste for a wide range of music at an early age.... Voices of Aretha Franklin, Ben E. King, Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye (to mention a few) enriched my taste for soulful music." "I started doing parties at age 12, which exposed me to a large audience and to "more music" especially dance music (sounds of the 70's, Philly sounds, disco). Developing my skills at this time was essential because the mixer and 2 turntables were now becoming the common tools of djing." "After graduating from high school, my mind was set to become a DJ of world class standards. After doing numerous shows, to as many as 5,000 people, I was now ready to take it global." "My first serious encounter with house music was listening to Larry Levan at the Garage back in 1985. That was a new experience. It opened my ears and heart to new levels. I was blowing away this moment, and that inspired me to really put roots down. "House became my home." "After many years of playing and making friends in the music industry, I pursued radio on the advice of a dear friend - doing terrestial radio during the 90's, intro pop, jazz, trance, and progressing into the mix of things. I did this for 2 years at a NY radio staton. I got bored after doing this and I hit the road and started promotion and engineering in studios with other DJs and recording artists." "After doing dancehall for some time, I was longing to get back to house music because it was missing from most of what was out here - So I came up with the underground house movement with a few friends." "That lasted for a good 10 years. It is now a global group of DJs in which a few members at this time are the mainstayers in house music: Tony Humphries, K-Alexi, Dennis Ferrer, etc. I'm proud to say it is still a growing movement that I'm a part of - remaining humble and loyal to house music." "Now, at my full circle, and now, gaining new friends - I thank all of the supporters and DJ's who carry the torch of house music ...and u, DJ Renay, I'm proud to say, are one of them." "Bless u sista." Thank u DJ Kinglion..I'm honored.. You can check out DJ Kinglion at www.myspace.com/kinglion973

Fri, 27 July 2007 ![]() I am extremely honored that DJ Alex Dimitri "South Soul" has agreed to be a Guest DJ on the Soul Sessions podcast. THANK YOU ALEX!!. When I first heard Alex' tracks, I could not believe that someone from Italy could possess so much soul... still can't believe it and once you hear his gospel house remixes - you can feel that he really feels it. Listen for yourself...
HERE IS ALEX' BIO You can also check him out and hear his tracks on www.myspace.com/alexdimitri It can be said of Alexander Dimitri, that he creates an ambiance that makes a lasting impression – always leaving the crowd wanting more. And when it’s all said and done, as the lights go on at the end of the night, the club-heads are rest-assured to still feel his vibe ringing in their ears as they drift off to sleep with a smile. Alex started out as a disc jockey when he was just 14 years old – playing for his peers at various events. It was at that age that he got a taste of the style of music that he truly loved - Garage and Soulful House – and it was at that period of time he became aware of what he was destined to do. Born in Brindisi, Italy, which is located in the “boot of Italy, Alex spent many years perfecting his craft and becoming a celebrity of sorts in his hometown where he would give command performances at numerous “Hot Spots. In 1999, Alex decided to relocate to Rome because he was given an opportunity to headline at such clubs as Mountgay, with the ever-popular DJ Luis Radio from Equal REC, Classico Village, Saponeria (where he had a two year residency every Saturday), Download, Alien, The Woodoo Bar, Villa Coesia, Tatoo, Happening and a host of many others. He also had the honor of receiving invitations to do gigs at the famous G Lounge in Venice and the Club House in Reggio Calabria. Over the past decade, Alex has had the good fortune to perform in some of the most elite venues in Italy and has been invited to be a part of some highly acclaimed events such as the Elements of Life Live Concert that featured Blaze, David Mancuso, Dofmaister and many others. In 2002, Alex decided to move back to Brindisi, where he played for an array of new clubs like Tribeka, Sound Club, Firenight, Vertigo, Menhir, Torre Regina and Le Corniche – continuing his beloved profession. It wasn’t until several years later that he decided to get into the producing and remixing aspect of the music field, thereby broadening his horizons and taking his talent to a new level – as many of our top DJs have done. This year has promised Alex’s breakthrough. He remixed the vocals of none other than the incomparable SuSu Bobien – creating a masterpiece that was selected out of hundreds of spec mixes which were submitted to the label, Soundmen on Wax, Ltd., for the Set Free Project. His mix has been released in the United States and overseas and can also be found on Traxsource.com. One of his earlier remix productions in 2006 was with keyboardist extraordinaire Dieghito and lead singer Kika called “The Italian Style EP which introduced the single “Look at You – also available on Traxsource.com and has received numerous accolades in each evaluation from various magazines and DJ’s alike. Though Alex is busy remixing and producing – he still remains true to his roots and will be spinning at Bobbi & Steve’s party in Miami at the Winter Music Conference 2007 – which in itself is a huge honor. Other DJ’s include Ron Carroll – who is an inspiration of Alex’s as well as Tony Humphries. In addition to Alex’s hectic schedule, he entered Gotta Keep Faith Records’ remix contest (submissions ended February 15, 2007) and placed in the top five for consideration of a future single release on GKF Records entitled “The First Time. Also, aside from being the new resident DJ at MAVU, that featured other guest DJ's like Louis Vega, Alex will be and branching out to different towns and cities all over the country. As of late, his remixing and productions are picking up with respect to the rework of Mr. Fuzz’ “First Time on GKF Records; NYC Peech Boys on Soundmen on Wax Records; and currently “As by the legendary Michael Watford also on Soundmen on Wax Records, Equal, Unified "Easy Living" Pevene Everett plus a project with Dieghito(Key) & Kika and the lyrics of Willy Washington. With the many blessed opportunities that have arisen and the many more promised – Alex Dimitri is coming up – and is a fresh talent to watch out for!!!Direct download: Alex_Dimitris_South_Soul_live_mix.mp3 Category: Special Mixes -- posted at: 12:43 AM Comments[0]

Sun, 6 May 2007 ![]() www.myspace.com/djrenay - Stop by and say Hi :) Currently on Rhythmflow Radio - www.rhythmflow.net www.djrenay.libsyn.com - weekly podcasts Formerly played at the Five Spot in Brooklyn. I am a house music lover who accidentally became a DJ because of my frustration of not finding the house music I wanted on cds. I started my journey late in the game (age 42) and spent the past 5 years learning to mix and playing music in my livingroom for my own enjoyment. I finally got the courage to play in public at an "Open Turntable" and, after appearing a few times, I was offered an opportunity to play during the breaks of the regular band and eventually advanced to playing 4 and 5 hour sets. I developed a passion for soulful and gospel house music after hearing selections from SuSu Bobien, Barbara Tucker, Kenny Bobien and the list goes on. "Gospel house music inspires me and assures me that it's gonna be alright - even when I am frustrated and unsure of my next step. It deposits my troubles in a safe place until I am ready to pick them up again - mostly in a better state of mind than when I started. That's why I love gospel house music."
